RATIA celebrates the 80th birthday of founder Ristomatti Ratia with a new table lamp

The design agency RATIA is known for it’s beautiful, timeless high-quality products. Since the 1990s, RATIA’s cooperation with domestic manufacturers has given rise to various classic items such as bags, furnishing fabrics, bath products, clothing items, carpets, jewellery and utensils that can be found in many Finnish homes and closets today.

RATIA’s founder Ristomatti Ratia’s life’s work as a pioneer of Finnish design continues to provide inspiration for other designers seeking to create something new. His desire to design objects that are both beautiful and practical was also the starting point for creating the new 80 table lamp.

The lamp is designed by RATIA designer and Young Designer of the Year 2019 Laura Väre in honour of founder Ristomatti Ratia’s 80th birthday, which is celebrated on 23rd of May.

“This simple yet elegant table lamp was designed in honour of Ristomatti Ratia’s 80th anniversary, and the number 80 also served as an inspiration for the form the lamp took during the design process. The lamp is made of birch veneer, which gives it a warm and atmospheric glow. It’s like a glowing moon that offers up its gentle light as you curl up under a blanket and the night darkens around you,” Väre says.
